The Fellowship extends from mid-August 2019 to early June 2020, offers room, board, a stipend of $8,000, and the opportunity to serve as a leader and mentor to the students of St. Martin’s.
A St. Martin’s Residential Fellow is an imaginative, team-oriented, and initiative-taking man with an irreproachable character. He is faithful to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church and ardently desires to grow in his Faith. He loves the outdoors, great books, and serving others. He is likely to be intensely interested in one, or several, of the following: splitting wood, playing the fiddle, gardening, Gregorian Chant, hiking and mountaineering, and scanning poetry.
By the end of the year a fellow will have gained significant hands-on experience in the operation of a sustainable farming operation
A St. Martin’s Residential Fellow, depending on his strengths, is likely to teach a class, coach a team, or lead a schola in addition to supervising student residential life. He will be a member of an intellectual community with time for study and borrowing privileges at a nearby State University. He will participate in and eventually lead the farmwork on campus. By the end of the year he will have gained significant hands-on experience in running a sustainable farming operation; have demonstrated leadership and responsibility in a variety of complex situations; and have strong recommendations as a key player in both farming and academic environments.
A Residential Fellow’s week might include the following:
❖ Attending Mass with the students
❖ Reading “To Build a Fire” by Jack London to the boys on a cold winter’s night.
❖ Teaching a seminar
❖ Planning and leading a camping or backpacking trip
❖ Taking accountability for students
❖ Supervising study hall
❖ Milking the cows
❖ Chanting Compline
❖ Castrating hogs
